Fitzsimmons & Associates, Inc. will provide consulting services and training to resolve and prevent injuries in the workplace.  We use two approaches, first, the employer can provide a safe place to work, and second, the employee can properly care for their own working body.  Fitzsimmons & Associates will provide clear direction to help meet reasonable solutions for both the employer and the employee needs.

Lost time and money are serious problems.  Losing staff because of injury on the job is even worse.  If those problems can be solved quickly and easily, the benefits are great.  Using solutions that do not fully address the problem may compound the problem, until yet another employee is lost from the work force.

Ergonomics consultants are available from many different disciplines:  Health and Safety backgrounds, including Industrial Hygiene, insurance companies and their agents, clinical providers like Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, and engineering and design disciplines.  Fitzsimmons & Associates uses consultants with both clinical experience for the Physical Therapy treatment of these injuries, and the experience of resolving problems with regularly available furniture, ergonomic equipment and more technical computer applications.  Our staff is also experienced with assisting the installation of their recommendations, and regularly provide follow-up to ensure the best outcome.

We use a comprehensive assessment of the body’s physical structure to determine the best client solutions, including simple exercise and postural changes.  Cumulative trauma injuries to the arm and shoulder usually require management of problems at the spine and shoulder, either because of how the body is supported, or how the body moves to accomplish the work.

Our first goal is to provide training for how the body’s problems may appear to the client, and to provide instruction for how to change those problems.  The training is provided to the client as part of either an individual assessment, or with groups of 10-20.  That training is critical for the client to understand their place in the injury process, and also to give them the best opportunity to actively participate in their recovery.

Our second goal is to provide simple and clear direction, usually as a written report, for both staff and employer.  The report and recommendations can be detailed for very specific products and/or vendors as needed.  We will work closely with the existing facilities managers and product vendors to permit a simple and seamless transition where directed.  Design services for custom modifications or custom installations are also available where indicated.  We do not sell product or furniture, and we prefer to use the existing vendor relationships.

We expect to be flexible in determining how best to apply the principles of best practice to meet your company’s needs.  Individual assessments and training may be important for specific problems, and group training and short assessment reports may serve larger groups.  Our assessment and training skills may meet your primary needs, and your staff may then conduct the installation or follow-up of recommendations.
